My parents were Roland Glen Mears, born September 14, 1909 in Shortley, Delaware and died April 16, 2011 in Clearwater, Florida and Edith Rae (Ellis) Mears, born December 29, 1909 in Reliance, Delaware and died October 13, 1988 in Safety Harbor, Florida. They were married December 18, 1929 in Cambridge, Maryland.

I joined the family in 1931. I was born in Cambridge, Maryland and raised in Seaford, Delaware. My brother, Glen, was born February 7, 1936, also in Cambridge, Maryland and also raised in Seaford, Delaware. Sadly, he died at the very young age of 23.


Roland Glen Mears' parents were William Burton Mears, born July 13, 1886, died December 27, 1946 in Wilmington, Delaware and Carrie Aline (Workman) Mears, born June 7, 1890 and died January, 1964 in New Castle County, Delaware. They were married October 21, 1908 in Georgetown, Delaware.


He had three brothers: Ray Salisbury Mears, born May 24, 1915, died November 8, 1994; William Edward Mears, born October 4, 1919; and John Eldon Mears, born October 10, 1932.


The parents of William Burton Mears were William Marshall Mears, born November 12, 1853 in Dagsboro, Delaware, died March 3, 1938; and Sara E. (West) Mears, born March 15, 1860, died January 25, 1937. They were married February 7, 1878. (?)




The parents of Carrie Aline (Workman) Mears were Charles Edward Workman, born April 6, 1846, died July 17, 1933 in Shortly, Delaware; and Levinia C. Phillips, born September 30, 1855, died October 21, 1946 in Shortly, Delaware. They were married March 1, 1874 in Laurel, Delaware.


The parents of William Marshall Mears were Burton Mears and Sally Ann Johnson (?) The parents of Sarah E. (West) Mears were William L. West and Sarah A. ?

The parents of Charles Edward Workman were Lewis Workman and Elizabeth (Vaughn) Workman. They were married October 11, 1826. The parents of Levinia C.(Phillips) Workman were Thomas S. Phillips, born 1829, died April 18, 1870 and Sarah A. West, born October 17, 1830, died October 13, 1908.
Edith Rae Ellis' parents were Ernest Collins Ellis, born March 15, 1879 in Sussex County, Delaware, died August 20, 1970, near Reliance, Delaware and Clara Elizabeth Ann (Coulbourn) Ellis, born August 23, 1887 in Choptank, Maryland and died July 30, 1971 in Millsboro, Delaware. They were married June 28, 1905 near Reliance, Delaware.

She had a sister, Grace Collins (Ellis) Nauman, born May 6, 1906, died October 3, 1994; and a brother, Nelson Edward Ellis, born July 11, 1919, died March 12, 2003.



The parents of Ernest Collins Ellis were George Robert Ellis, born January 25, 1839 in Sussex County, Delaware, died December 24, 1925 in Woodland, Delaware; and Sara Emily (Collins) Ellis, born April 14, 1848 in Sussex County, Delaware, died November 2, 1925 in Woodland, Delaware. They were married February 4, 1869 in Sussex County, Delaware. George Robert Ellis served during the Civil War (9/19/1861-9/30/1864) and received a gunshot wound in his left leg.
The parents of Clara Elizabeth Ann (Coulbourn) Ellis were Hugh Albert Coulbourn, born May 20, 1857 near Seaford, Delaware, died August 24, 1941 near Reliance, Delaware; and Lida Belle (Collins) Coulbourn, born June 11, 1859 in lower Delaware, died August 28, 1929 near Reliance, Delaware. They were married November 27, 1880 near Preston, Maryland.
The parents of George Robert Ellis were William Ellis, born March 29, 1813, died January 17, 1891 and Mary Ralph, born 1813, died 1898. They were married December 18, 1834. The parents of Sara Emily (Collins) Ellis were William Collins, born approx.1822 and Mary (Insley? born approx.1826?)

The parents of Hugh Albert Coulbourn were Elijah Coulbourn, born approx. 1814 and Elizabeth (Lank) Coulbourn, born approx. 1836.The parents of Lida Belle (Collins) Coulbourn were John G. Collins and Elizabeth (Simpson?) Collins.
